Honda S2000 Car Cover Reviews

Possibly Honda’s most underrated, yet iconic, car might just be the S2000. Making a splash in 1999, the S2000 quickly became a car aficionado favorite with its high-revving VTEC motor and roadster good looks.

It was truly a tech marvel and even starred as Johnny Tran’s ride in The Fast and the Furious. Production ended in 2009, but rumors of a comeback are rampant.

These cars remain highly collectible today. Where you have collectible cars, you have car covers.

Here’s a review of some of the best.  As always, skim our detailed Car Cover Buying Guide as well.  It’s the most thorough and informative guide on the market today.

Honda S2000 Factory OEM Car Covers

Not that anyone should be surprised, but Honda makes outstanding OEM parts.  Their factory car covers receive some of the best customer feedback you will see anywhere.

The Honda S2000 OEM car covers are great at what they do.  They provide outstanding INDOOR protection.  As we discuss in our Buying Guide, cars parked indoors face three threats:

  • Dust (it’s abrasive to paint)
  • Scratches (pets and falling garage clutter have ruined many a clear coat)
  • Condensation (moisture that doesn’t evaporate can lead to mildew).

The ideal car cover to thwart the above threats would have great dust protection, superior breathability and a very soft inner lining.

The Honda 08P34-S2A-101 Car Cover for 2000-2007 year models and the Honda 08P34-S2A-100A Car Cover for 2008-2009 year models are genuine Honda certified OEM accessories and more than meet the above requirements.

Honda S2000 OEM Car Cover on Yellow Car

These covers are custom fit and contour tightly to the shape of an S2000. A snug fit prevents dust from getting on your car from underneath the cover and possibly damaging the paint.

The inner lining is especially noteworthy.  It is poly cotton which is very soft and will not scratch your car’s paint.  Cotton and nylon fleece are considered to be the most desirable inner linings as they are less abrasive than polypropylene and certain other poly blends.  The inner lining also adds thickness which provides additional protection against scratches.

Moisture condensation can be an issue anywhere, but especially so in humid climates.  The reason this is a big deal is that moisture trapped between a car and car cover will create an ideal breeding ground for mold and mildew.  “Breathable” car covers allow moisture to evaporate quickly preventing any mold or mildew problems. With this car cover, breathability is absolutely superb.

The Honda OEM car cover is a premium product and includes a nice storage bag.  The cover does have side grommets, or as Honda calls them, “security eyelets,” but does not come with a lock.  An optional lock and cable system is sold separately.

Overall, this is a great cover.  The Honda OEM has been on the market for a long time and has received outstanding feedback.  It’s a very safe choice.

Who’s this car cover best suited for?  Anyone who parks indoors; anyone who wants truly premium protection; and anyone who values genuine Honda accessories.

Covercraft Custom Fit Noah

The Honda OEM covers above are for indoor use.  Now let’s turn to a great outdoor car cover, the Covercraft Custom Fit Noah.

Covercraft is one of the leaders in the market.  “Noah” is a patented, high-performance fabric made by Kimberly Clark and used by Covercraft to create this ultra-premium model.  The two outer layers are bi-component spunbond and treated with special UV inhibitors.

What does all that mean?  You get a cover that provides segment-leading dust protection and moisture resistance (note: none of these to covers are 100% waterproof, although this is one of the best).

Breathability is excellent as a middle layer of stretch film has chemically induced microscopic holes that are smaller than water droplets.  This helps keep moisture out but allows condensation and other trapped moisture to evaporate.

In terms of protection and functionality, we would rate the Noah as follows:

  • Dust (5 out of 5)
  • Rain (5 out of 5)
  • Snow (5 out of 5)
  • UV (4.5 out of 5)
  • Dings (4 out of 5)
  • Bird poop (5 out of 5)
  • Breathability (4 out of 5)
  • Inner lining softness (5 out of 5).

This overall performance profile is excellent, and no cover provides max protection across all dimensions.

The Noah is a true custom fit car cover and is made-to-measure and specifically tailored for the S2000, including sewn-in side mirror pockets.  Both the front and back have elastic hems to further ensure a tight fit.

Like with all premium outdoor covers, side grommets are included to allow the cover to be strapped down in windy conditions.

With a 4-year warranty and outstanding reputation, the Covercraft Noah is simply one of the best.

Who’s this car cover best suited for?  Anyone who parks outdoors; anyone who needs serious protection; and especially, anyone in particularly rainy, sunny or dusty climes.

Coverking Custom Fit Silverguard

We mentioned Covercraft was a leader in the car cover industry.  The other market leader is Coverking. Their Silverguard car cover falls between the Honda OEM and the Noah.

It can be used indoors and outdoors, but offers slightly less protection than the Noah.  It also retails for about half the price.

The Silverguard is made in the U.S.A. out of 300 Denier polyester with double-needle overlapping seams and wax coated threads.  It is an outstanding fabric for sunny, but otherwise temperate climates.  This is one of the better car covers on the market for UV protection.

In terms of overall protection and functionality, we would rate the Silverguard as follows:

  • Dust (4 out of 5)
  • Rain (4 out of 5)
  • Snow (5 out of 5)
  • UV (5 out of 5)
  • Dings (2.5 out of 5)
  • Bird poop (4.5 out of 5)
  • Breathability (4 out of 5)
  • Inner lining softness (4 out of 5).

As a true custom fit cover, it is designed with tailored S2000 mirror and antenna pockets.  The Silverguard has neoprene elastic tensioners in the front and back to keep the cover firmly in place.

With a 3-year warranty and a great price point, the Silverguard will be a perfect choice for many s2000 owners.

Who’s this car cover best suited for?  Anyone who parks outdoors in sunny but otherwise moderate climates and anyone on a moderate budget.

Conclusion

The four custom fit car covers we reviewed are all among the best in their various sub-segments.  It’s really not a matter of which one is best, but rather which one best fits your driving and parking habits.

For those needing a budget (<$60) car cover, good options exist.  Most of these will be universal fit covers and require more time and research and more realistic performance expectations.

Regardless of your needs and your budget, you should be able to find a great option.  Do you and your S2000 a favor and buy one!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q&A Vector photo

Do the OEM covers fit the CR model (i.e., with a spoiler)?

No.  They are made for the base models and do not fit large spoilers.

What accessories are included with the OEM covers?

Just storage bags.  Lock and cable systems must be purchased separately.

Can the OEM covers be installed while the car is hot?

These covers have heat-resistant material where they touch tail pipes.  That said it is always better to install a cover once a car has cooled.

Can indoor car covers be used outdoors?

A few hours outside here and there are no big deal.  However, these covers should not be used outdoors on anything approaching a regular basis.  They are not moisture resistant.  Also they will wear out faster as they are not UV resistant.

Should I strap my cover down if its’ parked outside?

If it is windy, then absolutely yes.  Good covers have elastic hems in the front and back to ensure a snug fit.  However, covers can blow off without additional support.  Securing the cover by using straps and buckles and the installed grommets only takes a couple of minutes and will keep your car well protected.

Are the outdoor car covers waterproof?

No, despite some manufacturers occasionally using the term “waterproof,” these covers are only “moisture resistant.”  Now, they are VERY moisture resistant, and it would take a hard rain for your car to get wet.  100% waterproof car covers (e.g. a rubber tarp) don’t breathe and are bad for cars.
